Culture, Camels, Cans and Cars – Festivals in the Outback

As it's probably safe to say that we're the only place in the world that boasts camel races and a regatta featuring vessels made from beer cans, we are proud to celebrate our unique culture and heritage through year-round festivals ranging from the quirky to the traditional.

There are several remaining events through the end of the year including the Outback Marathon (July 30) that cuts through the heart of the Red Centre, Ayers Rock/Uluru and The Olgas; the Garma Festival (August 5-8) celebrating indigenous practices and traditions; and the Darwin Festival which reflects the diversity of the region through food and entertainment.

There is also the Alice Springs Desert Festival (September 9-18) showcasing indigenous musicians and wild bush food as well as the World Solar Challenge (October 16-23) where participants from around the world race in cars powered only by the sun's radiation.
