Born to Explore

Explorer, naturalist and television host Richard Wiese will feature the Northern Territory in a new series debuting this September on ABC Weekend Adventure – Born To Explore.

In addition to providing a firsthand look at Aboriginal culture and traditions, Wiese (often referred to as the real Indiana Jones) will meet up with a "camel whisperer" and learn about the history of these animals Down Under. He will also visit the remote and unique region of Arnhem Land. Wiese also journeyed to uncover and help explain the myths and mysteries that surround the Rainbow Serpent, which plays a significant role in Aboriginal beliefs and culture; learned the science behind relocating saltwater crocodiles in Kakadu National Park; as well as an unforgettable experience at Ayers Rock/Uluru — an iconic Australian landmark under consideration as one of the finalists for the New 7Wonders of Nature campaign. "Having been to more than half of the locations being considered for this recognition, I truly believe that Uluru is one of the most spiritual and magical places on Earth," notes Wiese. "I look forward to sharing its cultural, archaeological and geologic signficance with viewers as well as the many unique aspects throughout the whole Territory."

You can cast your own vote for Uluru by visiting www.australiasoutback.com/voteuluru.  The winner will be announced on 11.11.11.  For more information on Born To Explore, visit www.litton.tv.
